The 2026 Texas runoff elections mark a pivotal moment for the state. There are more than 18 statewide elected officials up for election, along with Texas’ members of Congress, state legislators, district-based judges and local elected officials. In many cases, the winner in May's runoff election will essentially decide the winner before Election Day.
The morning after the May 26 vote, join TribCast co-hosts Eleanor Klibanoff and Matthew Watkins, along with a panel of experts, for an analysis of results from the U.S. Senate race, the battles for statewide office and what the results mean for November.

James Barragán is the anchor of Capital Tonight, Spectrum News’ statewide politics show. He has covered Texas politics for 10 years with previous stints at the Austin American-Statesman, The Dallas Morning News and The Texas Tribune. James earned his bachelor's degree in History from UCLA and minored in English. In 2024, he was selected as a Nieman fellow for Journalism at Harvard University, where he studied the erosion of democracy in the United States at the state and local levels. His reporting has earned him numerous awards, including nomination as a finalist for The Livingston Award for Young Journalists in 2023 and twice named a finalist for the Toner Prize for Political Reporting.
Gabby Birenbaum is the Washington Correspondent for the Texas Tribune. She covers the Texas congressional delegation and the impact of federal policy on Texas. Gabby previously covered Washington for The Nevada Independent, where she wrote the weekly D.C. Download newsletter and covered the 2024 presidential election and competitive Senate race. Prior to The Nevada Independent, Gabby worked at The Washington Monthly and Vox. Gabby graduated from Northwestern University, where she studied journalism and political science. She is a native of Arlington, Virginia and is based in Washington, DC. In her free time, she enjoys playing tennis, watching movies and being a long-suffering fan of DC sports teams. Her work is supported by a partnership with Report for America.
Eleanor Klibanoff is the law and politics reporter, based in Austin, where she covers the the Texas Legislature, the Office of the Attorney General, state and federal courts and politics writ large. She also co-hosts the weekly politics podcast, TribCast. Eleanor previously spent three years as the Tribune’s women’s health reporter, covering abortion, maternal health and LGBTQ issues. Before coming to Texas, Eleanor worked for the Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting, where she reported, hosted and produced the Peabody-nominated podcast, “Dig.” Eleanor was born in Philadelphia and raised in Atlanta, and attended The George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
Watkins began serving as editor in chief of the Tribune in September 2024. He is a Texas native, born in Houston and raised in Austin. He attended public schools and graduated from Texas A&M University. He’s spent nearly two decades in Texas journalism, and previously worked at The Eagle in Bryan-College Station and The Dallas Morning News. Matthew joined the Tribune in 2015 has held various roles, including higher education reporter, breaking news editor and politics editor.
